Water Treatment in Yakima: softeners, filters and cleaner water

Hard water, sediment and a chemical aftertaste are common in the valley. We size a water softener or filter to your house and install it beside your water heater.

Chapter 01

What hard water does to a Yakima house

Tap water around Yakima varies from one neighbourhood to the next, and plenty of homes notice it the same way: a white crust on the faucets, a cloudy glass, a taste you cannot quite name, skin that feels dry after a shower. Behind the walls it is worse. Scale builds up in pipes, in the dishwasher and washing machine, and on the bottom of the water heater.

That scale is why appliances need repairs sooner than they should, and why a water heater that should last 8 to 12 years does not always get there. Treating the water is usually cheaper than replacing what it wears out.

Sizing and setting a softener or filter

Joe Ross and his crew start by asking what you are seeing and what you want fixed: scale, sediment, chlorine, lead, or just taste. That decides which of a water softener, a filtration system, reverse osmosis or a combination fits. A system is sized to the size of your household and the way you use water, not picked off a shelf.

Installation is done by licensed technicians. In a lot of homes the softener and filters go on the same wall as the water heater, with the expansion tank and shutoffs tied in cleanly, which is exactly how the job in the photo above was set. The crew checks flow and connections before they leave and walks you through the controls.

Estimates are free and the price you get never changes after the fact. Financing through Housecall Pro and Wisetack is available if you want to spread the cost.

Chapter 03

Cleaner water, longer-lived appliances

The payoff shows up in small ways first: better tasting water straight from the tap, fewer contaminants in what your family drinks, and no more scrubbing scale off the shower glass. Over the years it shows up in the appliances, since softer water is easier on the dishwasher, the washing machine and the water heater.

If you already have a softener or filter and it has stopped doing its job, call and describe what changed. We serve Yakima, Selah, Union Gap, Terrace Heights and Wapato, plus Ellensburg and the rest of Yakima County and Kittitas County, Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm.

“We had All Valley Plumbing install a water softener for us and their crew did an amazing job. Very clean, friendly, polite, professional and fairly priced. Would highly recommend them.” Scott Davis · Google review

What goes on the wall

Three systems, three jobs

Most homes need one, some need two. A softener often pairs with a new water heater install, and a filter or reverse osmosis unit handles what hardness treatment does not.

Water softener

Reduces the hardness behind scale in pipes and appliances, dry skin and dull hair. It protects the plumbing and the water heater next to it.

Filtration

Pulls out chlorine, lead and other impurities so the water you drink, cook with and bathe in is cleaner.

Reverse osmosis

A multi-stage system for the purest drinking water, for homes and businesses that want the finest particles gone.
